About

Brothers Dante and Adriano Vernetti, who were the sons of Brussans’s niece Giuseppina Mattioda and Carlo Vernetti, came to South Africa in 1965 after having qualified a surveyor and accountant, respectively. They  started their own company called Toro Construction in 1966.

Toro Construction employed a team of highly qualified artisans and specialised in structural concrete work. They undertook many contracts throughout South Africa, initially doing concrete work as as a subcontractor for Scribante Construction. Toro Construction also subcontracted to Mattioda Construction for the bridges and drainage works on the Ottawa railway line contract north of Durban.

Many viaducts, bridges and concrete structures and tunnels scattered throughout South Africa bear testimony to Toro Construction’s achievements. Subsequently Adriano Vernetti has been involved in various ventures including a very successful business which manufactures electrical cable and electronic terminals for Credit cards in South Africa and France. He also undertook a number of property developments in Cape Town and is the Founder of Direct Construction.
